Komen South Dakota Announces Funding for 2008-2009 Statewide Breast Health Programming

Minority and under-insured women and breast cancer patients benefit from South Dakota Affiliate of Susan G Komen for the Cure Grant Program

Yankton, SD - Hutterite and Native American women, under-insured women and breast cancer patients in remote locations will benefit directly from this year's South Dakota Affiliate of Susan G Komen for the Cure grant program.

The South Dakota Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, one of more than 125 Affiliates nationwide dedicated to putting an end to breast cancer, will grant $85, 915 to fund six programs throughout South Dakota. Komen South Dakota has granted more than $300,000 since it began in 2005.

The South Dakota agencies receiving 2008 grants are:

  • Faulkton Area Medical Center, Faulkton, SD, to provide education and screening services to four Hutterite communities.
  • All Women Count/Women's Breast Cancer Network, Pierre, SD, to provide mammograms for under-insured women.
  • John Vucurevich Regional Cancer Care Institute, Rapid City, SD, to provide access to women needing breast cancer treatment in remote locations outside of Pennington County.
  • Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Clinci, Flandreau, SD, to provide breast health education, screenings and a pink shawl for breast cancer survivors.
  • Sanford Breast Health Institute, Sioux Falls, SD, to support services for breast cancer patients.
  • Avera Cancer Institute, Sioux Falls, SD, to create and provide a 12 week survivorship program for focused on holistic rehabilitiation.
