THE SUSAN G. KOMEN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION EXPANDS ITS LEADING GRASSROOTS NETWORK IN UPPER MID-WEST

New Komen Affiliate to Serve Unmet Breast Health Needs in South Dakota

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation announced the establishment of its new South Dakota Affiliate in April 2005. The Komen South Dakota Affiliate will work with the Foundation’s headquarters and the other 114 Komen domestic Affiliates to fulfill the Foundation's mission of eradicating breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment.

The new Komen South Dakota Affiliate will serve all counties of South Dakota except Union County, which is part of the Siouxland Affiliate.

“The Komen Foundation has a unique approach to fighting breast cancer through our comprehensive mission, which allows us to invest in research while also addressing the needs of future generations,” said Connie Wagner, president of the Komen South Dakota Affiliate. “We are proud to be a part of the Komen Foundation family and to bring the power and reach of the Komen mission to the state of South Dakota.”

The South Dakota Affiliate Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation invites South Dakota to join the cause. Wagner states “It is the continued dedication of women and men across South Dakota, working together with the public and private sectors that will enable us to address unmet needs of the medically underserved in the state and bring further education to win the fight against breast cancer.”
